Tosca
On paper, the role of Tosca may not seem an obvious match for Ingrid Bjoner, but by the end of this performance she proves she has something important to say about the character. Her "Vissi d'arte" is particularly affecting, marked by an emotional vulnerability and an introspective quality that gives the moment a profound sense of sincerity. David Ohanesian, often overlooked during his career, delivers a compelling Scarpia, revealing a voice and presence that easily stand alongside the greatest interpreters of the role. One notable caveat is that, while the principal singers perform in Italian, the supporting roles and chorus sing in German, which may be jarring for some listeners.
