Despite wearing the title of one of the greatest Italian tenors, Jussi Björling never lost his Swedish routes often returning to sing in his original language. Many will say that the opera suffers in a language so foreign from Italian but there is a closer immediacy in Björling's portrayal. The emotion is palpable especially at the climax of "No, Pagliaccio no son!" He is joined by a fine group of Swedish singers and the sound is very good.
