This performance of Andrea Chénier bares resemblance to the wonderful EMI recording featuring Antonietta Stella and Franco Corelli which was the Chenier that I grew up listening to. This performance benefits from that fact that is was made slightly earlier and it features Ettore Bastianini as Gerard (not to speak ill of the great Maria Sereni.) The three leads are simply outstanding. Corelli, in particular, gives an impassioned reading of the title role. The sound is excellent although there is a ten second break in "La mamma morta" as well as in the following chorus scene in Act III.
