Description:

Five years after the success of Fedora, Umberto Giordano returned to a Russian setting with Siberia, trading opulent salons for the bleak confines of a prison camp. The score brims with the same sweeping grandeur found in Andrea Chénier, but adds a sincere attempt at capturing Russian atmosphere and the harsh brutality of its environment. The sound alternates between quite clear and slightly muffled.
