Gilda Cruz-Romo
Gilda Cruz-Romo possessed a remarkably versatile soprano, equally at home in delicate bel canto, passionate verismo, and even the demands of Wagner. This compilation highlights that breadth with arias from Anna Bolena, Luisa Miller, Il trovatore, La forza del destino, Aida, Mefistofele, Tannhäuser, La bohème, and Tosca.

What an era of great spinto sopranos
Listening to this CD and being reminded how truly fine a singer Cruz-Romo was, I have two remarks. What a good compilation of this soprano's remarkable career highlights, and several things I had never expected.frpm her. Like the Anna Bolena scene which nicely opens this disc. The sound capture is often not that great, but beggars can't be choosers. The other thing I have to say is what a remarkable era that was when a soprano with so many gifts didn't dominate her era. It was the time of Tebaldi, Price, Stella, Callas, Tucci, Sutherland and Gencer. Today? Cruz-Romo would be much heralded and very cherished.
