Both are very good recordings with amazing sound. Can only recommend.

Deutekom's bel canto roles were not recorded commercially except for various arias. There are, however, pirates of Armida, Puritani, and this Lucia. By the time of this recording (1975), Deutekom had largely adapted her coloratura technique so that her runs and fioratura were more legato and less yodelled (listen to her exciting Queen of the Night for Solti if you want to know what I mean by yodelled). Her ornamentation is quite conservative and based very much on the Italian traditions of the role. The high notes are huge and thrilling. Her actual interpretation of Lucia is a little bland, but hearing that voice in the house must've been an experience. Carreras is probably the real attraction here as he sings like a God. His voice in 1975 was a marvel of beauty from top to bottom. The audience worships him. Fioravanti sings Enrico very well, proving again how underrated he was. Cava is a solid, if not very imaginative Raimondo. Gatto leads a performance in which all the normally cut scenes are restored, but he makes slashing cuts within them. The sound is very listenable with the voices almost always audible over the orchestra (occasionally the singers wander upstage and off-mic). This must've been recorded from the pit as individual instruments are heard very distinctly at times. The tapist moves the mic sometimes causing the sound to "wrinkle" a bit, but it doesn't last long.Lucia lovers and especially Deutekom and Carreras fans will want this!

En casi todas las discográficas (House of Opera, Standing Room, Première...) figura esta grabación como procedente de una performance realizada en Madrid en 1975. Es falso. Deutekom no cantó nunca en Madrid, Carreras no cantó nunca Lucia di Lammermoor en Madrid y Giulio Foravanti jamás cantó en España. La toma procede de una "recita" en la Arena Sferisterio de Macerata que tuvo lugar el 13 de julio de 1975 . Por lo demás, una magnífica interpretación bastante bien grabada.

Great: sound, cast, opera. Deutekom could even handle dramatic roles likeAttila. Carreras had a voice of stunning beauty. Like so many tenors hedamaged it by singing heavy roles ala Pavarotti. Fioravanti was a fine baritonewho never became very famous. He sang Enrico on a filmed Lucia w/ Anna Moffo.
