Not only does it include Jon Vickers in the title role, Heather Harper as Ellen and Norman Bailey as Balstrode, the supporting parts feature the likes of Heather Begg (a Mrs. Sedley for the ages), Forbes Robinson, Thomas Allen and Elizabeth Bainbridge. Sir Colin Davis leads a vigorous performance driving the chorus to a fever pitch. The sound is very good.
