Antonietta Stella is a singer about whom you never hear a bad word. She had the physical and vocal presence of a goddess with a voice that could sing just about anything (she even sang Sieglinde in Italian.) Her Norma is no exception. She is joined by Mario Del Monaco as a swaggering Pollione and Elena Nicolai as Aldagisa. I have to warn you all that there is a very prominent hiss, but beneath the surface flaws is a truly great performance.
