Pros:

  • On paper, the role of Tosca doesn't seem like the most logical fit for a singer like Ingrid Bjoner, but by the end of the performance Bjoner proves she has something to say about this character. Her "Vissì d'arte", in particular, was marked by a profound emotional connection to the character, and each word she sang felt imbued with sincere anguish and introspection.
  • Despite being under appreciated in his day, David Ohanesian proves that he could stand next to some of the greatest Scarpias of his day.

Cons:

  • Although the leads sing in Italian, the supporting roles and chorus sing in German.
