Pros:
- The true star of this show is the Staatskapelle Dresden. They play with unabashed, yet tasteful, sentimentality. (One can only image that a few of the players must have participated in the work's premiere only 39 years prior to this recording.)
- Tiana Lemnitz's smokey soprano is glorious in the title role, an achievement made all the more impressive by the fact that she was well into her 50s.
- I must admit that I mostly knew Kurt Böhme from his later years when he took on a lot of character parts. Heard in his prime, it is clear that the man could really sing which is a rare luxury when it comes to the role of Baron Ochs.
- This recording replaces a previous version in our catalogue and is in far superior sound.
Cons:
- None to mention.
