Description:

"Temperament" is a word often used when describing great Toscas, and Éva Marton has it in spades. Dramatically she holds back absolutely nothing, yet still manages to scale back her voice to achieve moments of ravishing beauty. Jaume Aragall brings both sweetness and bravado to the role of Cavaradossi. The Vienna State Opera in the 1970s was known for throwing together standard repertory works with minimal rehearsal, but Alberto Erede seems to have secured extra time and uses it to great effect, drawing exquisite detail from the orchestra. The sound is excellent throughout.
