Coming from the Aix-en-Provence summer festival, this production boasts a very international cast. Representing the French is Gabriel Bacquier in the title role. His voice may not be the most glamorous but it he is such an actor that he is able to convey the character in the shaping of the language. Teresa Stich-Randall inspires many different feelings among opera fans. Certainly her vocal production was not the most conventional but she had a great affinity to Mozart and when her voice worked well, which it does in this performance, she combines purity of tone, great-breath control and vocal maneuvering; all of the traits of a great Mozart singer. She is matched in elegance and vocal control by Luigi Alva who makes his arias seem easy. As Leporello, Rolando Panerai shows that he could play the buffo part as well as the leading man. The sound is good.
