Pros:
- Katia Ricciarelli and José Carreras give this performance of Don Carlo a youthful exuberance the likes of which you rarely hear in late Verdi.
- Although far from Italianate, Eva Randová delivers a red-hot Eboli.
- This recording contains some interesting music not included in the published score, including the touching duet between Elisabetta and Eboli just before "O Don fatale" and the ensemble after Posa's death in which Verdi borrowed music from the Lacrimosa in his Requiem.
Cons:
- There is some very occasional static throughout the performance.
