This Walküre caught my eye because it featured the sorely underrepresented Liane Synek in the title role. Synek's career was limited to smaller parts at Bayreuth and the occasional larger roles in revival productions in theaters around Europe. It is a shame because her voice and artistry were worthy of notice. Her athletic "Hojotohos" at he beginning are delivered with gusto and throughout the evening her tireless soprano only grows in warmth. The rest of the cast is serviceable. The one disappointment is the Wotan of Wilhelm Schirp whose sensibility is marred by provincial mannerisms. The orchestra is also less than idea although it is interesting to hear the reduced orchestration that many regional companies used at the time. The sound is very good.
