Pros:

  • This epic opera by Michael Tippett addresses the Trojan war before the fall of Troy.
  • In what must have been shocking to the public at the time of its premiere, Tippett does not shy away from the homosexual relationship between Achilles and Patroclus and in fact makes it the a driving plot point of the opera.
  • They assembled some of the finest British singers for this performance, including Forbes Robinson in the title role, Marie Collier as Hecuba, Richard Lewis as Achilles and Josephine Veasey as Andromache.

Cons:

  • None to mention.
