Pros:
- In this performance, Renato Bruson makes an impressive role debut as Macbeth, striking a compelling balance between conveying the character's moral ambiguity all while delivering Verdi-singing of the highest order.
- Verdi famously stated that he wanted an ugly voice for the role of Lady Macbeth, and in that respect Grace Bumbry falls short as it is near impossible for her to hide the natural beauty of the her luscious soprano voice, despite her clear dramatic commitment. Not the worst problem to have, especially if you love great singing.
Cons:
- None to mention.
