Pros:

  • Don't be scared away by the fact that this performance of Das Rheingold is on three CDs. Reginald Goodall works his magic, suspending time and space, while giving the listener a chance to luxuriate in the details of Wagner's score without ever feeling like inertia might set in.
  • Norman Bailey is superb as the head god.
  • In fact, there isn't a singer in the group who is anything less than world class, right down the the Rhinemaidens.
