Beethoven: Missa Solemnis - Stich-Randall, Proctor, Pears, Borg; Horenstein. Leeds, 1958
$8.95
Listen to a Sample:
Pros:
- Teresa Stich-Randall's ethereal soprano is right at home in Beethoven's idiom (although the highest lying parts occasionally bedevil her.)
- It's always fascinating to hear Peter Pears in non-Britten music. His technical skill as a singer was remarkable.
- Nancy Procter is excellent as alto soloist.
- Jascha Horenstein delivers a taut performance, despite being a last minute substitution for an ailing Otto Klemperer.
Cons:
- None to mention
