If you have ever heard anyone assert that larger voice are not conducive to Mozart, I would have you refer that person to this energetic performance of Così fan tutte featuring Cristina Deutekom and Tatiana Troyanos as the sisters. Deutekom and Troyanos achievements in their respective parts are doubly impressive because not only are they able to sing with the finesse and style that Mozart requires, but they bring vocal heft that one usually associates with Verdi or Wagner. The result is a performance that is able to go into overdrive during the many ensembles, with the two ladies soaring above the orchestra and chorus. The rest of the cast is also quite good with Renzo Casselato standing out as a light, but sweet-voiced Ferrando. The sound is excellent.
In Stereo.
