There has long been an unfortunate stereotype of the "English Singer."   Cerebral, dry and thin voiced.   Thank God for Pauline Tinsley to break that pigeon hole and show that they can give any Italian a run for their money in verismo.  Tinsley sings Santuzza with what seems like an almost endless amount of voice.  Her voice is rich and even all throughout her range and soars over the orchestra.  She is joined by Placido Domingo as Turridu.  A great soprano  always seemed to inspire Domingo and here is no exception.  Their duet is red hot.   Giampietro Mastromei is superb as Alfio and we get the luxury of having Heather Begg and Gillian Knight as Lucia and Lola, respectively.  The sound is very good.
