Pros:

  • Even if vocally Ingrid Steger might not be the most distinguished in this role, she ultimately won me over by the end of this very exciting performance of Elektra. Her voice is slender, and at times has an edge to it, but she copes well with the daunting challenges of the role, and seems dramatically commited every step of the way.
  • As Chrysothemis, Ludmila Dvorakova's opulent soprano shimmers and soars.
  • Towards the end of her career, Martha Mödl seemed to be in a perpetual state of vocal crisis. Fortunately, this performance finds her in relatively fresh voice, and she delivers one of the finest Klytämestras I have ever heard from her (even better than the famous Salzburg, 1964 performance in my opinion.)

Cons:

  • None to mention.
