Listen to a Sample:
Pros:
- As Violetta, Roberta Peters takes a bold turn away from the "-ina" roles (Zerlina, Norina, etc) that made her a star, and offers some full-throated singing that, quite frankly, I never knew she had in her.
- Giuseppe Campora brings effortless, ample tone to the role of Alfredo.
Cons:
- Although the cast is world class, the chorus and orchestra give "regional opera" a bad name.
- My one critique of Roberta Peters is that when she doesn't have the support of the orchestra underneath her, the pitch often sags.
