Pros:

  • As Mefistofele, Norman Treigle's brilliance is on display in all its glory. For a singer whose name was synonymous with American opera, he brings an impressive understanding of both Italian language and style, all while treating the audience to booming tones that would have been the envy of some of the great Italian basses of the 20th century.
  • As Margerita/Elena, Carol Neblett's vocalism is youthful yet opulent.
  • Harry Theyard's voice may have lacked a certain amount of glamor, but he sings with a sophisticated sense of Italian style and technical ease that make him very effective in this challenging role.

Cons:

  • None to mention.

BONUS:
Carol Neblett sings "Johohohe... Traft ihr das Schiff" from Der fliegende Holländer
