Humperdinck: Hänsel und Gretel (In Italian) - Cossotto, Poleri, Amadini; Sanzogno. Milano, 1957
Listen to a Sample:
This performance of Hänsel und Gretel in Italian features a young Fiorenza Cossotto. Although Cossotto would go on to own the great dramatic mezzo parts, she demonstrates that there was a softer side to her artistry and delivers a performance that is quite sweet. The rest of the cast is very good with Maria Amadini standing out as the haggard mother. Nino Sanzogno brings lyricism and romantic sweep to the lush score. The sound is very good.
