Verdi: La Traviata - Freni, Pavarotti, D'Orazi; Cara. Modena, 1965

$8.95

Description:

This recording captures the genesis of one of opera’s most legendary partnerships—Mirella Freni and Luciano Pavarotti. Taken from a 1965 performance in their hometown of Modena, it showcases both singers at around 30 years old, already sounding remarkably mature as artists while singing with freshness and ardor. I initially expected Freni to lack some of the weight Act II demands, but whether due to the intimacy of the theater or her own vocal strength, that concern proved unfounded. Interestingly, Pavarotti’s voice seems darker here than in later years—likely the result of a technical adjustment rather than a natural change. Regardless, he sings with his signature elegance and beauty.
