This performance of Verdi’s Requiem features fine performances from chorus, orchestra and soloists but in particular, soprano Renata Scotto. In the mid 70s Scotto started to pivot towards more dramatic rep and for a while she was able to bring the lyricism of her early years coupled with a dramatic slancio that she did not have in the 60s. Unfortunately, she did not fully deliver on the promise of her fledgling dramatic soprano career, but this performance finds her in ideal form for Verdi’s dramatic yet angelic writing for the soprano. Flaviano Labò and Nicolai Ghiuselev as the tenor and bass soloists, respectively, also deliver fine performance. The sound is very good.
