The full scope of Renata Scottos' melting, limpid soprano has rarely been heard to better effect than it is here. Her Giulietta sounds fresh, heartfelt and beautiful, and the vociferous audience response is well-deserved. Her Romeo is the highly underrated tenor Giacomo Aragall, making the best possible case for the transposing of this mezzo role. Going up against Luciano Pavarotti, in gorgeous voice as the vengeful Tebaldo, this love triangle is possibly unmatched. Claudio Abbado conducts this stunning 1968 performance.
