Pros:
- Annelies Kupper brings a slender, silvery tone to the title role.
- Margarete Klose's powerful mezzo definitely skews more Germanic than Italianate, but it is hard to fault her given how easy she makes this monster of a role sound.
- A young Christa Ludwig makes an appearance as the Priestess.
Cons:
- At the time of this performance, Max Lorenz possessed two different vocal colors, and both of them are loud. Still, he makes it through the role, which is no small accomplishment for a tenor.
