Aida

Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1883)

DESCRIPTION

This precious document serves as a testament to the brilliance of Marisa Galvany. As Aida, Galvany could easily rival the most esteemed interpreters of the role, bringing a gleaming top, pristine control, and thrilling guttural chest tones. She even interpolates the high E-flat at the end of the Triumphal Scene, a choice that underscores both her technical assurance and dramatic flair. Louis Quilico is the other standout of the cast, proving himself to be a Verdi baritone of true distinction, marked by vocal solidity and interpretive authority.

It is a shame that neither of these artists received full recognition during their careers, making this recording all the more valuable.
