Pros:

  • Teresa Stich-Randall's ethereal soprano is right at home in Beethoven's idiom (although the highest lying parts occasionally bedevil her.)
  • It's always fascinating to hear Peter Pears in non-Britten music. His technical skill as a singer was remarkable.
  • Nancy Procter is excellent as alto soloist.
  • Jascha Horenstein delivers a taut performance, despite being a last minute substitution for an ailing Otto Klemperer.

Cons:

  • None to mention
