Verdi: Aida - Coleman, McCracken, Resnik, Protti; Previtali. Buenos Aires, 1962

$9.95

Description:

This performance of Aida pairs a strong cast with the assured musical direction of Fernando Previtali, resulting in a compelling and finely shaped interpretation of Verdi’s epic. Theresa Coleman takes on the title role with a voice of opulence and refinement, offering both tonal beauty and expressive clarity.

James McCracken, though never known for vocal sweetness, brings astonishing control to his powerhouse tenor—handling the role’s formidable demands with apparent ease. His vocal authority is matched by Regina Resnik, whose Amneris is a dramatic and vocal equal in their Act IV confrontation. Resnik strikes a fine balance, portraying a character who is formidable but not without vulnerability. Aldo Protti lends polish and gravitas to Amonasro, singing with elegance and strength throughout.

The sound is very good.
