- Renata Tebaldi is sheer perfection in the title role. She finds an excellent balance between the youthful fragility of Manon, in contrast (and harmony) with the character's inner strength and sensuality.
- A young Plácido Domingo asserts his star-power well before he had become a household name, singing with confidence and abandon.
