Pros:
- Don't be fooled by the fact that the names on this recording might not jump out at you. The cast assembled is really quite good and brings a sense of confidence and ensemble to this performance of Das Rheingold that could easily rival the most star-studded affair.
- Jef Vermeersch' Wotan exudes charm and brash ambition.
- Janet Coster brings rock solid technique to the role of Fricka, never letting the character descend into characture. li>The true star of the evening may be Zoltan Kélémen, whose Alberich is every bit the depraved villain but not completely bereft of dignity.
Cons:
- There are some brief drop-outs on this recording, presumably where the tape needed to be changed. All of them occur during orchestral interludes thereby keeping the flow of the actual scenes.
