Verdi: Aida - Arroyo, King, Cossotto, Mastromei, Vinco; Gavazzeni. Bueons Aires, 1971

This recording is exceptionally valuable because it features the under-recorded Martina Arroyo as Aida as well as James King in a rare turn as Radamès. Although the two may not bring the most Italianate approach to their roles, they bring the qualities that made them unique performers. King in particular excels in the role of Radames. Fiorenza Cossotto's Amneris should be no stranger to lovers of this opera, and here she demonstrates why she owned this role for decades. The sound is excellent.
