- Inge Borkh delivers a riveting performance in the title role, displaying opulent tones without shying away from pushing her voice beyond the bounds of beauty for dramatic effect. Hans Hotter's approaches the role of Jochanaan with the same level of nuance that he brought to Winterreise, resulting in a prophet who is far more human in scale.
- Joseph Keilberth has an excellent sense of which details to highlight within the orchestra.The approach gives greater musical focus to passages that can otherwise sound like cacophony.
