Pros:

  • It is incredible that in the 1970s performances of Tosca with the likes of Gwyneth Jones were more or less routine throughout Europe.
  • Jones was already knee-deep in Wagner at the time of this performance, and she does not shy away from unleashing her Wagnerian-size voice when the drama calls for it (which is often in this opera.) What is more impressive, however, is how she scales back her voice for an impeccably sung "Vissì d'arte."
  • Wiesław Ochman brings a germanic lyricism to the role of Cavaradossi.

Cons:

  • None to mention

BONUS:
Gywneth Jones sings arias from Don Giovanni, Don Carlo and Aida
