I was drawn to this performance because it featured the great and under-recorded Gladys Kuchta as Senta.  Most sopranos do not return to the relatively lyric role of Senta after they have graduated to Brünnhilde and Isolde.  Gladys Kuchta shows that despite the shift to larger repertoire she still has the vocal control to manage the many delicate passages that Senta has especially during the Act II duet with the Dutchman.  And when it calls for it she musters astonishing power for example during her aria and at the end of the opera.  Edmund Hurshell's voice is slightly dried out which makes Senta's attraction to him seem a little perplexing.  Dimiter Uzunov is good in the thankless role of Erik and Grace Hoffman is luxury casting as Marie.  The sound is very good.
