Placido Domingo did not sing the part of the Duke that often in his career, perhaps fearful of the tessitura.   This performance shows that he could pull it off (with the help of a few tricks) and do it beautifully as well.   Edda Moser was a wise choice to pair with Domingo.  Her's is a voice that is more than a few sizes larger than most lyric sopranos who sing Gilda but she sings all of the notes in "Caro nome"  and then lets it rip in the storm scene like few sopranos can.  Kostas Paskalis is also very good as Rigoletto.
