$8.95

Listen to a Sample:

Pros:

  • The stand-out of this recording is James King who shows that he was capable of scaling back his oversized tenor during the ensemble singing, as well as letting it rip during the "Ingemisco".
  • A young Gwyneth Jones is both angelic and dramatic.
  • George Prêtre delivers crisp articulation from the orchestra, and finds tempi that have drive without seeming rushed.

Cons:

  • There is some distortion during the "Dies Irae" and the "Libera me domino."

In Mono

BONUS:
Gwyneth Jones and James King sing duets from Aida, Fidelio and Die Walküre
