Verdi: La Forza del destino (excerpts) - Lotte Rysanek, Oncina, Manuguerra, Mróz, Cossotto; Märzendorfer. Wien, 1974
$4.95
Listen to a Sample:
Pros:
- In the 1960s, Leonie Rysanek sang a few performances of La Forza del destino at the Met. Sadly those shows were not recorded, however this performance, featuring her sister Lotte, helps to flesh out how Leonie would have fared in the role given their uncanny vocal resemblance. Lotte's voice was more lyrical in nature than Leonie's, but she had reserves of power that allowed her to sing the big Verdi roles. The lyricism of her voice is exquisite, at times making one question if she was not the true vocal talent in the family.
Cons:
- This recording only includes Leonora's scenes, so if you are excited by the prospect of Fiorenza Cossotto's Preziosilla, I am sorry to inform you that she is only featured in the Act II Inn Scene prayer.
In Mono & Stereo
BONUS:
Lotte Rysanek and Nicolai Ghiaurov sing the Act II Leonora/Guadiano scene from La Forza del destino
