Puccini: Turandot - Lippert, Caballé, Labò, Wildermann; Patané. 1969
$9.95
Description:
Marion Lippert stands as yet another example of the remarkable roster of dramatic voices from the 1960s. Her voice, possessing both the beauty and the requisite steel for a Turandot of distinction, is a testament to the exceptional talent of the era. It is unfortunate that she faced such fierce competition at the time, as she would undoubtedly be in great demand were she performing today.
Montserrat Caballé nearly steals the show as Liù, her stunning control on full display in her arias. Caballé’s ability to navigate the emotional landscape of the character with both vocal ease and dramatic depth is remarkable.
Flaviano Labò brings power and refinement to the role of Calàf, completing a stellar trio of soloists that elevate this performance. Though the chorus and orchestra do not quite match the excellence of the soloists, the overall presentation remains compelling.
