Listen to a Sample:
It is a great pleasure to make this recording of excerpts from Turandot available. Hearing Amy Shuard sing "In questa reggia" might even prompt you to say "Birgit who?" Not to say one singer is better than the other but Shuard certainly brings a fatter more voluptuous sound and the high notes seem to erupt out of her making the icy princess seem at the same time glamorous and truly terrifying. Many tenors would likely be scared away but Donald Smith's stentorian tone is able to hold its own next to Shuard. He also sings one of the most lyrical "Nessun dorma"s I have ever heard. I wish the entire performance existed because we only get a one-line taste of Marie Collier's Liù. To fill out the CD I have included excerpts of Amy Shuard singing Lady Macbeth
