A new talent is always a very exciting thing. Especially when they are able to blossom into a great artist. Raina Kabaivanska had just been singing professionally for about six years and was still in her twenties when she sang this performance of La Bohème. Her voice radiates a youthful optimism throughout the opera. Both her control over her technique and her style are remarkable. The sadness in her voice during "Donde lieta uscì" is palpable. I am very happy to report that the sound is excellent. A rarity for a document of an artist just getting her feet wet.
