Blessed with the rich lower register of a contralto and the top of a soprano, Fiorenza Cossotto was destined to dominate the dramatic mezzo repertory. And although her prodigious voice coupled with her fiery stage temperament made her thrilling in roles like Amneris and Eboli, there was more to her artistry than just hysterical princesses. In this compilation, I have made a point to paint a more well-rounded picture of this artist and have included excerpts from Serse, Hänsel und Gretel and Il Barbiere di Siviglia as well as her warhorses (Don Carlo, Aida and Il Trovatore).
