- Listening to this performance, it occured to me that one of the most remarkable aspects of Magda Olivero's artistry is how it never seems to be about her. When she was on stage she inhabited the role, and every nuance she brought to the part was in service of the text, rather than just making pretty sounds. And yet, in the process she did make some very pretty sounds.
- In the role of Rance, Anselmo Colzani exudes both swagger and vulnerability.
