La Bohème

Giacomo Puccini (1858–1924)

DESCRIPTION

In this Swedish-language recording of La Bohème, Elizabeth Söderström and Gösta Winbergh unite in roles that, while not ideally matched to their vocal timbres, are nonetheless shaped with thoughtful musicianship and refined technique. Söderström approaches Mimì with the same finely etched sensitivity familiar from her recital work, favoring nuance over overt theatricality.

Winbergh lends a clear, lyrical tone to Rodolfo, excelling in passages of intimacy and restraint. Yet in moments demanding greater vocal heft, the instrument reveals signs of strain, suggesting a voice more naturally suited to lighter repertoire.
