Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro - Jurinac, Fischer-Dieskau, Sciutti, Evans, Lear; Wallberg. Salzburg, 1962
$7.77
Listen to a Sample:
Pros:
- Today this cast would be considered "legendary", but in Salzburg during the 1960s it was almost routine.
- The most interesting feature of the performance is Evelyn Lear as Cherubino. Lear brings an opulence of tone that is slightly at odds with the character, but makes for an stunning rendition of "Voi, che sapete."
Cons:
- Unfortunately, during Acts III & IV the pitch wavers in a way that detracts from the music-making. I have included an example of this at the end of the audio sample. Otherwise the sound is very clear.
- A good portion of "Porgi amor" is missing.
