Eva Marton was far from a household name in 1977. Here she assumes the daunting title role of Aida. I don't think that she sang this role that often. It is a pity because her voice is very well suited to it. "O Patria mia" is wonderfully controlled. She gets off the high C relatively quickly but many great sopranos couldn't even do that much. Placido Domingo has to employ some tricks to get through the role but I won't dwell on this because he makes up for it with beautiful burnished tones and strong intensity. The sound is fair.
