Pros:

  • After hearing this performance, it's clear that the role of Orfeo doesn’t quite work for a baritone. The lower tessitura diminishes the sense of urgency that a soprano or tenor naturally brings to the role. That said, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau’s insightful interpretation ultimately transcends the musical incongruities.
  • Elisabeth Söderström’s silvery soprano beautifully captures the tragic elegance of Euridice, infusing the role with both vulnerability and grace.
  • Ruth-Margret Putz’s mischievous Amor adds a delightful spark to the performance.

Cons:

  • None to mention.
