Richard Lewis brings a refined, understated elegance to the role of Captain Vere, providing a perfect complement to Robert Kerns' powerful portrayal of the title character. Georg Solti demonstrates a deep understanding of Britten's musical language, amplifying the dramatic intensity of the opera to often gut-wrenching effect. Forbes Robinson delivers a wonderfully villainous Claggart. The sound is excellent. At times the announcer interjects brief descriptions before each scene. Depending on your point of view this can either be irritating or helpful.
